What To Say For Certificate

Her Lover HOMELESS - Fruttero and Lucentini

WITHOUT THE LOVER Homeless
Fruttero and Lucentini
Mondadori

The lover homeless (1986) belongs to the "standard" style of literary couples formed by Charles Fruttero and Franco Lucentini. Let's talk about writing a very organized architecture of a narrative that fit like cultural references of all kinds - from art to literature itself, through the mere figure captions - and not without indulging complacency. Thus, the lover homeless could be read as a kind of intriguing, and obviously intelligent, "tourist guide-romance" in which the love story of a man and a woman might look like just another excuse to draw painting Venice. But here Fruttero and Lucentini (which, not coincidentally, were nicknamed "the company") does not pack the product, given the circumstances, one would expect. In the novel, in fact, everything is played on the double plane normal / extraordinary: a clandestine love affair from the start (but maybe that could become much more) to the alternation of narrative voices (women, the omniscient narrator, e.. . who else?) and, of course, the splendor of gold and dark in Venice. It is both normal and overtime, reality and myth, the hero first, precisely the lover homeless. Mr. Silver is not an ordinary man but a legend - and to those with capital L - In the flesh. Who cares if you succeed or not to discover what law it is already after a few dozen pages, because the charm of this novel (and perhaps also the challenge of its authors) is in its play between the minimalist and the exceptional, to characterize the daily leaving out the fantasy that you hide. A balance that is worth some scholarly digression ...
